Bristol, Virginia approves agreement to bring BRL team to Boyce Cox Field
BRISTOL, Va. – The City of Bristol, Virginia, has approved a lease agreement with Sullimak Entertainment, LLC, operator of the Blue Ridge League, to bring a collegiate summer baseball franchise to historic Boyce Cox Field beginning in the summer of 2027.
The agreement marks an exciting new chapter for baseball in Bristol and reflects the City's continued commitment to preserving and enhancing the sport's rich tradition within the community. "We are excited to welcome the Blue Ridge League to Bristol and Boyce Cox Field," said Tamrya Spradlin, City Manager for the City of Bristol, Virginia. "This partnership brings high-quality summer baseball back to one of our community's most historic venues while providing affordable, family-friendly entertainment and creating new opportunities for residents and visitors to experience America's pastime."
“We’re incredibly excited to bring Blue Ridge League baseball to Bristol beginning in 2027. This is a community with a tremendous baseball history, with the Bristol Tigers, Bristol White Sox and Bristol Pirates all having played affiliated professional baseball at Boyce Cox Field over the years. We already know the baseball passion and tradition are here, and we look forward to working with the City of Bristol and building a team at Boyce Cox Field that the community can really embrace and be proud of for years to come,” said Greg Sullivan, Blue Ridge League chairman.
“Watching baseball with my dad at Boyce Cox Field is one my earliest and fondest memories, and I’m thrilled that baseball is coming back home to our City. Wood-bat league baseball is a timeless All-American classic, and I am excited to see how Sullimak Entertainment brings it to our City,” said Jake Holmes, Mayor of the City of Bristol, Virginia.
“Ever since the days of the Bristol Twins at Shaw Stadium during the height of World War II, Bristol has been a City that loves baseball. During our 250th birthday as a nation, it's only fitting that we begin the process of bringing America's pastime back to Bristol. I'm grateful for Sullimak Entertainment's commitment to our city and I'm excited to cheer on the home team," said Neal Osborne, Vice Mayor of the City of Bristol, Virginia.
Sullimak Entertainment, LLC has operated collegiate summer baseball organizations for the past six years and has maintained a presence in Southwest Virginia for the last two years. The Blue Ridge League completed its inaugural season in 2026 with eight teams across Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, drawing thousands of fans throughout the summer. The Bristol franchise will become the league's ninth team.
League play is expected to begin at Boyce Cox Field in late May 2027 following the conclusion of the Virginia High School League baseball season. The Bristol team will host approximately 20 home games each summer through July and will feature current collegiate players from programs throughout the region and across the country.
