Blue Ridge League Wraps Up Inaugural 2026 Season

The Blue Ridge League completed its inaugural season in 2026, bringing summer collegiate baseball to communities across Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina while laying the groundwork for continued growth in 2027.

Eight teams competed during the league’s first season: the Carolina Disco Turkeys, Davie Crocketts, Greenwood Flying Monkeys, Joanna Hornets, Marion Hungry Mothers, Queen City Corndogs, Spartanburg County Peaches and Uwharrie Wampus Cats.

The Queen City Corndogs emerged as the league’s first champions, defeating the Carolina Disco Turkeys in the Blue Ridge League Championship Series after the two clubs separated themselves at the top of the standings during the summer.

While Queen City and Carolina established themselves as the league’s top two clubs, Greenwood and Joanna also finished above .500. Overall, four of the Blue Ridge League’s eight teams finished the inaugural season with winning records and four finished below .500.

The league also saw strong fan support throughout its first summer. Thousands of fans attended Blue Ridge League games across the region, highlighted by a July 4 weekend that drew approximately 10,000 fans to league-related events. Crowds of approximately 1,000 or more attended several games during the season in markets including Greenwood, Marion, Albemarle and Winston-Salem.

Blue Ridge League teams also competed successfully outside the league schedule. BRL clubs finished 4-2 in games against Coastal Plain League opponents during the 2026 season, providing additional opportunities for players and fans while showcasing the level of baseball throughout the league.

Beyond the results on the field, the inaugural season established a growing network of community-based summer baseball clubs playing in a mix of historic ballparks, municipal facilities and college venues throughout the three-state region.

That footprint is already growing.

The Blue Ridge League recently announced that Bristol, Virginia will join the league for the 2027 season under a long-term agreement with the City of Bristol. The new club will play its home games at historic Boyce Cox Field, which hosted affiliated minor league baseball for more than 50 years.
