Blue Ridge League Opens 2026 Season With Strong Memorial Day Weekend

The Blue Ridge League’s opening weekend brought strong crowds, new venues, fireworks and plenty of early momentum across the region, with the biggest scene coming Monday night in Mocksville.

The Davie Crocketts opened their home schedule at Mando Field at Rich Park with packed stands, a Memorial Day fireworks show and a ballpark atmosphere that brought out much of the town. The game also marked a new chapter for the Crocketts, who sold beer at a home game for the first time at Mando Field.

It was the kind of opening night the league hoped to see from one of its newest markets.

The Carolina Disco Turkeys also got the season started Friday night at David F. Couch Ballpark in Winston-Salem, drawing a good crowd despite chilly, wet weather. Carolina opened its season with a win over the Uwharrie Wampus Cats, giving the league a strong first night even with less-than-ideal weather conditions.

Rain affected parts of the weekend schedule. The Wampus Cats’ original home opener Saturday was washed out, but Uwharrie returned to Don Montgomery Park and opened at home in front of a great crowd in Albemarle.

The Marion Hungry Mothers were also scheduled to open at home on Memorial Day at Hurricane Stadium, but that game was rained out and will be made up soon. Marion is now set to play its home opener Thursday night when it hosts the Davie Crocketts.

With strong early crowds in Winston-Salem, Albemarle and Mocksville — and Marion still set to join the home-opening slate this week — the Blue Ridge League began the 2026 season with visible momentum in several communities. The Queen City Corndogs, Spartanburg County Peaches and Greenwood Flying Monkeys all begin play this week.
